Living in the Midwest, my clubs don’t get fresh air for about a 3-4 month stretch during winter. So when it finally does get above 40-45 with no wind, golfing outside in the sun seems like Christmas day all over again!

However, the majority of the time the ground is still frozen and darn near impossible to get a tee into the ground.

There may or may not be snow on the ground.

The wooden and plastic tees refuse to go into the rock-hard ground.

Birtee golf tees- pro speed version

Birtee Golf Tees are the gold standard for winter tees and simulators alike.

These tees have been through several versions to create the strongest and most durable plastic tee possible.

This ultra-flexible BirTee Speed Pro tee will last you hundreds to thousands of swings before it becomes unusable. These are perfect for golf simulators.

For most golf simulators, black works best to get the most accurate feedback.

I have hit several hundred drivers on my golf mat with little to no wear.

Youtube User GolfQuest has hit the Birtee Golf Tee 1400 times with his driver and is still usable!

They come in varying heights from ¼” to 2” with ¼” incremental steps, helping get the correct tee height no matter what club. You no longer have to worry about hitting irons off a ridiculous 1” tee, the ¼” tee works great with short irons and wedges.

These are the most expensive tees on the list, but are also the longest lasting and most durable.

The BirTee offers little to no resistance unlike rubber tees, which allows you to swing freely through impact leading to maximum distance.

These are made from an extremely durable and flexible plastic, resulting in hundreds to thousands of swings and still being usable.

If you are one that likes varying tee heights depending on variables like wind condition, these tees are my top recommendation!

Cheapest Winter Golf Tees: Winter Golf Tees- Muxsam

What we like:

4 Tee heights: .51″, .71″, .86″, 1.49″

Quickly and effortlessly tee up the golf ball with large cone shape

All 4 tied together with string, will not fly far away after teeshot like other winter tees

Cheapest tees out there, 4 pack of rubber tees for $7

Great for slow swing speeds (90 MPH or lower), no durability issues

What we don’t like:

Not the most durable, especially for faster swing speeds (100+ MPH).

Tee heights aren’t ideal heights. Too tall of heights for irons and wedges and 1.49″ tee is not tall enough for those who like to tee their drivers high.

Quality is not the best, some reviews were real positive about the quality of the tees while others complained of cracks in the tees and the string falling off in as little as 50 swings.

Not USGA compliant unless you cut the strings off, tees can’t be anchored down.

Winter Golf Tees- Muxsam

If you are looking to save a few bucks, the Muxsam Winter Golf Tees are the way to go. This pack of 4 comes in 4 different sizes: .51 in., .71 in., .86 in., and 1.49 in.

For $7, you won’t find a lower price on tees for your golf mat or simulator!

These tees are perfect for frozen ground and golf mats alike as the rubber cone shape allows you to quickly and effortlessly tee up the golf ball.

Each one of the tees comes with a string 12 inches long attached to it, allowing you to stake it into the ground or making it easier to find and pick up after a tee shot. Be aware though the string makes them illegal for handicap use or USGA competition.

The largest tees may not be tall enough for those with 460CC who like to tee it high. The 4 tee heights also may not suit every golfer as it may lead to awkward tee heights for woods and especially irons.

I am one who loves to have his tee height barely above the ground for short irons so these tees were not a great fit for me.

The .51” tee was kind of awkward for me and lead to hitting it very high on the clubface for most of my short irons.

I had durability issues with the 2 larger tees, as the rubber seemed to split after about 100 swings or so. I have around a 110 mph swing speed though so if you have a fast swing, these may not be for you.

I asked a few golfers with <90 mph swing speed about durability concerns with the rubber tees, and they had no complaints.

If you have a slow swing speed, the Muxsam Winter Golf Tees will give you the most bang for your buck!

I would give caution as there seem to be dozens of sellers on Amazon selling this same exact tee.

So shop around on Amazon to get the best price, but know that this may not be the highest quality golf tee out there. If you have a slower swing speed though, they seem to be durable enough to be a good value.

These tees are great for juniors, seniors, or anybody with a slow swing speed.

Anyone with a swing speed above 100 MPH though should be wary of buying these as most users have experienced cracks in the rubber after 100 swings.

The quality seems inconsistent from pack to pack, and I’m not a fan of the tall tee heights. That being said, if you are looking for the cheapest tees for your driver or fairway woods, give these a try.

These tees are flexible and lightweight, not affecting clubhead speed through impact.

These cheap, durable tees are great for indoor use.

These flexible tees are 3D printed from a durable thermoplastic and won me over right away. They withstand the forces of a fast swing speed and have shown little to no wear after hundreds of driver swings.

The only complaint I have is that they are so lightweight that they can topple over outdoors if playing on a windy day.

They also fly a pretty far distance after impact and sometimes will even make it off the teebox from time to time.

The tee heights aren’t ideal with only 3 heights (.75″, 1.25″ and 1.65″), but they are easy enough to cut down to the ideal height for your swing.

If you are looking for a great value for your indoor practice, these tees would be near the top of my list!

What we like:

Extremely durable, longest-lasting tee that has been tested at fast swing speeds (100+ MPH)

Tees can be stacked for maximum flexibility in tee height.

Small tees can be 1/4″ or 1/2″ depending on which side sits on the ground

What we don’t like:

Only 2 tee heights (1.62″ or 1/4″). Would be great to have a tee height in the middle for fairway woods.

Yellow and Green tees can be hard to find in grass when playing outside

Lightweight plastic, struggles to stay upright in real windy conditions. Flys far after impact outdoors.

Tomahawk neo golf tee

These tees have been featured on Golf Channel’s Golf Fix and Golf Academy.

These plastic tees come with 3 large 1 ⅝” tees that can be trimmed to size and 6 small tees that are ½” or ¼” depending on which side you have sitting on the ground.

The tees can also be stacked on top of one another if you need just a little more height for your driver or fairway woods.

I have no complaints about these tees. They are made of flexible plastic, which helps disperse the forces of impact.

I have had no durability issues with these tees. After hundreds of swings with drivers and irons, these tees showed very little wear.

In my opinion, these are just as durable as the Birtee Golf Tees.

The users at GolfSimulatorForum rave about Tomahawk tees, and this forum is my go-to for research regarding anything golf simulator related.

The Tomahawk Neo Golf Tee are the best indoor golf tee money can buy, as shown by being the tee of choice in several Golf Channel shows.

These flexible tees are perfect for the golf simulator. The 1/4″ tee is perfect for irons and if you flip it over, it sits at a great height for most fairway woods and hybrids at 1/2″.

The tees can be stacked if needed to slightly increase tee height.

The only complaint I have are that the tall tees do not have a huge base, can easily topple over in the wind or on teeboxes that are not closely mown.

They also fly a pretty far distance after impact and the yellow and green colors can be hard to spot in the grass.

Large tees are 1.62″ long and can be stacked or trimmed if needed to get the ideal height. Smaller tees can be flipped to either be 1/4″ or 1/2″, perfect for most irons and fairway woods.

If you are looking for a great indoor tee trusted by the Golf Channel, the Tomahawk Neo Golf Tee is the best tee to use!

The GoSports Rubber Golf Tees are a great addition to anyone using a thick mat. The 2 taller tees allow for common driver heights while the smaller tee allows you to use a real wooden tee at any height.

These tees are good for using with a golf mat, however, they do not hold up well on their own. They are not sturdy enough to stand straight up and hold a golf ball without the help of a mat.

GoSports rubber tees are a perfect addition for thick golf mats and those who do not need smaller size tees for irons or hybrids on their mat.

Rubber tees are very durable, and great flexibility on tee height with sticking tees into the rubber tees.

Wide base allows for use in a golf mat as well as outside on grass.

Traditional cup design at the top of the tee minimizes contact points between golf ball and tee allowing for maximum distance and repeatability.

What we don’t like:

Tee heights range from 1.2″ – 2.1″. Would be great to have a shorter tee for irons and hybrids.

Rubber tees are not tall enough to use alone with a driver, need to insert additional tee into it.

Flexible rubber struggles to keep ball on tee in windy conditions when not used with a mat.

CliSpeed winter golf Tees are a great addition to anybody who frequents the range or is hitting frequently in their garage or basement.

These flexible, yet durable rubber tees have 5 different lengths but allows wooden tees to be inserted into them. This results in endless height combinations.

No issues with durability from personal use and reviews. However, Amazon listing images are clearly photoshopped stock images with the tee stuck in. Makes you wonder about the overall quality of the product.

The 20 PC. Plastic Golf Tees from Ruyshu is a good value pick for plastic winter golf tees. They have held up for me decent over time and only break down after a few hundred swings.

These are not great for outdoors as they are unsteady in windy conditions and the tall tees struggle to stay upright with a ball on top.

These are almost identical to the Tomahawk NEO tees and also seem to have more quality issues than the Tomahawk Neo tees. I would personally buy the Tomahawk Neo tees over these because quality matters over quantity.

If you are looking for as many tees as possible at the cheapest price, these tees from Ruyshu are the way to go.

What we like:

What we don’t like:

For faster swing speeds, tees have consistently broke after 100+ swings

Only 2 tee heights of 2.2″ and 2.36″, no tee heights for irons or fairway woods.

Expensive, hard to justify $17 for 2 tees with durability concerns and only heights made for the driver.

The Good Hombre Golf Tees are made of rubber and the wide base allows it to be used on grass as well as golf mats or any solid surface.

These tees have a unique design, and I am bummed that it doesn’t have different heights for irons and hybrids. I am disappointed in it’s performance in faster swing speeds as both of my tees broke around 80 driver swings. At this price range, that is completely unacceptable.

There were no issues with golfers with swing speeds (less than 90 MPH).

Keep in mind that with the security wire attached, these tees are not USGA compliant and would result in a DQ or forfeiting your score for handicap.

Good Hombre golf tees are solid driver tees for a senior or junior not having to push a tee into the ground and getting a consistent tee height every time.

What we don’t like:

Tee heights of 1/2″, 1.5″, and 1.75″ are not ideal. Not tall enough for those who like to tee it high with the driver and 1/2″ tee too short for some with fairway woods.

Smallest tee of 1/2″ flies 25+ yards downrange, unusable on a driving range.

Product listing on Amazon not very descriptive, little to no details on tees.

The Royaltees Simulator tees are made from a durable and flexible rubber that can withstand hundreds of swings at 100+ MPH.

The 3 heights of 1/2″, 1.5″, and 1.75″ accommodate most golfers. However, I prefer to hit my irons and hybrids at around 1/4″ and some golfers like to tee it up higher than the 1.75″ tee.

They also fly way too far to be of any use on a driving range or courses with hazards in front of the tees. The smallest tee flew 45 yards for me off the tee!

Luckily, there is an easy fix to this and that’s to drill a small hole in the outside portion of the rubber and tie some string or fishing line to the tee and secure it into the ground or weigh it down with washers. Not ideal and I wish Royaltees would come up with a solution instead of having to DIY fix it myself.

These are great for simulator use or hitting it into a net as you don’t have to worry about golf tees flying off to who knows where. I would highly recommend these for golf simulators or hitting into a golf net! Getting 3 durable rubber tees at $12 is a hard value to beat.

Flies 5-10 yards after impact. Couldn’t use at a driving range unless you DIY a solution to anchor it down.

Durability issues with faster swing speeds. Several reviews (myself included) have seen these tees break between 30-60 driver swings.

Can be used as an aid for tee shot alignment, therefore illegal under USGA rules and would result in a DQ.

The OctoTee will definitely turn some heads next time you head out to the course. It’s unique 4 legged design (each of unique length) allows for 3 different tee lengths and a steady tee indoors and outdoors.

It claims to be usable for hundreds of times, but beware as a bunch of reviews claimed their tee brook between 30-60 driver swings at anywhere from a 100-115 MPH swing speed.

Older users have claimed to love the OctoTee though with zero durability concerns. Their listing claims that you can use it as an aid for aiming, just beware that this is illegal under USGA rules.

So if you have a slower swing speed and are looking for a rubber tee with multiple heights that can be quickly used, the OctoTee would be a great choice.

What we don’t like:

Tee heights are too high for anything smaller than a modern size driver.

Major durability concerns. A lot of reviews saying the tee did not last a week!

Having a tethering or anchor system on a golf tee is non conforming to USGA rules, would result in disqualification if used

The BIRDIE79 Big Head 4 Legs Golf Tee is a uniquely designed golf tee that is adjustable to 4 different lengths (1.77″, 1.97″, 2.17″, 2.37″).

Honestly a great design as you essentially can get 4 exact lengths in one tee, but poor execution on the quality IMO.

It feels cheaply made, and the results show that as it broke after about 35-40 swings.

It was no fluke as several reviews have complained about the tees breaking within a week or sometimes even a round!

The tee is also non conforming to USGA standards in 2 ways. It has an anchoring system and has a direction arrow on it to help aim your tee shots.

Both of these are illegal and would result in a DQ and/or not counting your scores towards your handicap if used outside of practice.

Their listing claims that you can use it as an aid for aiming, just beware that this is illegal and will result in disqualification under USGA rules.

For these reasons I can not recommend this tee to anyone until a new version comes out that has more durable materials.
