HOW WE PICKED AND TESTED golf grips

We tested each grip independently with hundreds of swings, from drivers to the delicate pitch shots around the green. We also scoured through thousands of reviews on Amazon, Rock Bottom Golf, Golf Galaxy, manufacturers website, etc. to help further validate our ratings.

Below are the top 5 most important factors we considered when ranking golf grips.

Golf Grip Performance

How does the grip perform in all conditions a golfer may face in a round of golf? Does it give you the confidence to swing freely to go hunting for that tucked pin? Do you still get great grip in rainy weather? Performance is the most important factor for a golf glove in our rankings.

Golf Grip Price

Is the grip priced fairly compared to the quality of the grip? We understand everyone has different price points and do extensive research to ensure that our recommendations are great value golf grips.

Golf Grip Comfort

How does your grip feel going after it with a driver? Does it feel tacky and comfortable or is the grip rubbing away at your hands? We value comfort very highly because you need to be able to swing confidently and not think about or have discomfort with the grip.

Golf Grip Durability

We research and validate that these grips are of good quality and will last as long as expected. No one has the time or money to continuously buy golf grips, we value grips that are made of high quality materials that last all conditions golfers will face (sweat, rain, mud/dirt, etc.)

Golf Grip Style

A very minor ranking factor, but to some golfers it greatly matters how the golf grip looks. No one wants an extremely ugly looking grip, and a sharp looking grip will give you confidence throughout the round. If your equipment looks good, you feel good, and then play good.

BEST CHROMIUM FREE AND FORMALDEHYDE FREE GOLF GRIPS

Chromium and Formaldehyde are used to cure leather and are found in most leather golf grips. I have not found a leather golf grip that does not use chromium in the tanning process.

As seen in this study, an LPGA golfer had recurring contact dermatitis on her golf glove hand and only went away after switching to a chromium-free golf glove. The same study should have been done for leather grips. Leather grips are not common, but offer great benefits such as a long lifespan and are a great alternative for golf gloves.

Avoid all leather golf grips and golf gloves and get a 100% synthetic golf grip if you have a chromium or formaldehyde allergy. Please check out the golf glove allergy list as well, I would hate to see you buy allergen free grips just to have your hands breakout because there is leather in your glove.

My top pick after hours of research for the best leather free grip is the BRD X1 Grip.

Best Premium Leather Free Grip- BRD X1

BRD X1 Grip is Best For: Golfer Who Values Performance and Feel and Not Afraid to Spend $$

Pros:
Dual layer technology tested at the highest swing speeds to guarantee the best feel and feedback throughout the swing.
Best Feel Ever. Phenomenal feel due to the advanced polymers in both layers of the grip.
Extremely lightweight grip with dual dimple design allows maximum swing speed without hands slipping during the swing
Cons:
Expensive at $16 per grip.
Only in standard size
Can’t make grip slightly larger with several layers of grip tape

brd x1 golf grip review

The BRD golf grip is headquartered in Florence, Italy. It was all started by 23 year old Alessandro Guazzini. He started this small, family business by obsessing over a grip that provides great tackiness and shock absorption for the next generation of golfers who are reaching new levels of swing speeds and ball speeds.

Performance: 5/5

This glove performs like Sunday Tiger in the mid 2000s. Relentless, your hands never slip and gives you supreme confidence over every shot. It’s a good feeling knowing you don’t have to worry about the club slipping. This lightweight grip delivers that and more, the amount of feel the BRD X-1 grip delivers on every shot is second to none.

The most impressive part to me was the instant feedback it provided. It felt like my hands were an extension of the club, I could instantly tell if my shot was hit on the sweet spot, heel, toe, etc.

The BRD X-1 grip only comes in standard size. This works great for this grip, as it is extremely lightweight and allows you to swing as hard as you can without the club slipping. I had no issues swinging through the rough with this club, it didn’t even feel like I needed to grip hard and swing aggressively through the ball. The BRD X-1 grip outperformed all expectations I had, would highly recommend this to all handicap levels.

This lightweight grip delivers that and more, the amount of feel the BRD X-1 grip delivers on every shot is the best of any rubber grip tested.

Price: 3.5/5

The only complaint on this grip would be pricing. For $16 per grip, it’s hard to justify for the average golfer. Installing 13 of these per year yourself would still cost you $208. If you have someone else do that, throw another $50-$80 on that total.

Comfort: 5/5

The BRD X-1 grip has some innovation that is truly out of the box. The front and back of the grip have different sized dimples, which is unheard of but makes great sense when broken down.

The front of the grip has small dimples that help with the grip and traction within the palm of the hand. These are greatly responsible for the feel shots and the instant feedback provided when struck.

The back of the grip has wider dimples like a tire designed to help keep your hands in places and to prevent slipping. This provides the stability and tackiness needed to try and nuke a Driver onto a short par 4.

Durability: 4.5/5 *for now

The BRD X1’s are very durable, owner Alessandro Guazzini recommends to change the golf grip once per year if you play often. I’ve had one on for about 3 months on my 5 wood and have not noticed any drop-off in performance or tackiness.

These grips were made to be installed with an air compressor. You can take them off and reinstall them as many times as needed with compressed air. They can also be put on the traditional way with grip tape and solvent.

BRD does not recommend building the grip up with multiple layers of tape. This would shorten the golf grip life stretching the inner polymer core of the grip.

Style: 3.5/5

I’m not sold on the style of the grip, at first glance these look like a cheap Walmart brand grip with the clear outer core of the grip. It isn’t a deal breaker though, as you get used to the large BRD logo in plain sight.

You get used to it after a while, especially after being able to send it off the tee and being able to hack it out of deep rough knowing that your hands will not slip at all during the swing.

BRD X1 Golf Grip= Revolutionary Technology for Rubber Grip

I am honestly shocked I never heard of this grip brand before researching hypoallergenic golf grips. They are a small shop in Italy bound for a sudden rise in the golf grip world, how can they not with a quality product like this??

If you are looking for the best quality rubber grip that performs in all conditions, look no further than the BRD X1 grip. The innovative dual dimple layout provides great comfort in your hands while allowing for a consistent, tacky grip every time.

The only negative I can say about these grips are the price and style of the grip. They are expensive at $16 per grip and the style is offsetting in my opinion with the clear outer core of the grip. If you can get past these 2 barriers though, it’s the premiere option for a rubber style grip.

Beware that shipping is $25 to the United States for 1 or 2 grips. 3+ grips will get you free shipping.

4.3

Best Value Leather Free Grip- Golf Pride Tour Velvet

It’s Best For: Golfer Who Values Tour Pro performance while saving some $$

Pros:
Soft and Tacky texture provides great feel and feedback during the swing.
The velvet grip has a slightly textured surface to enhance traction, especially in damp or sweaty conditions. It’s one of the best grips I’ve ever played with in the rain.
Great value under $10/ grip
Grip Choice of Tiger Woods and #1 grip played on PGA Tour
Cons:
The Tour Velvet does not offer a wide range of customization, only comes in black with no other colors, patterns, textures, etc.
A few older golfers complained it was tough to install on the club if doing yourself
Due to its tacky surface, it will pick up dirt more easily than other grips with smoother finishes. This is not a big deal, just be aware you may have to clean the grips slightly more often.

Golf Pride Tour Velvet Grip Review

4.8/5 stars on Amazon- 973 ratings

The #1 grip in golf stands out for a reason as being the best value grip. Its phenomenal combination of comfort, feel, and performance for less than $10/ grip makes it the most sought out grip by pros with millions on the line as well as the weekend hackers looking to break 90 for the first time.

Performance: 4.5/5

The textured surface of the Tour Velvet grip enhances traction in all playing conditions. It excels on dry days as well as hot, humid or rainy days. The feel of the club is one of the best I’ve ever felt. It perfectly toes the line between being soft but yet responsive.

The feedback you get from shots is immediate as far as hitting it in the sweet spot, toe, etc. but does not sting or have any discomfort. The grip allows your hands to be connected to the club throughout the swing, allowing effortless power and control on every shot.

Price: 5/5

Being able to use the most popular grip on tour for a budget price seems too good to be true.

At under $10 per grip, it is THE best value out there. If you are serious about your game and looking for an upgrade, join Tiger Woods and play the Tour Velvet grips.

Comfort: 4.5/5

The soft, yet tacky grip provides the greatest comfort and gives confidence in being able to hit that shot that will keep you coming back for the next round.

The tacky grip also allows you to swing freely and not have to worry about tightening the grip on those 27-36 hole days. This will prevent hand fatigue and give you consistent swings throughout the day, which should lead to lower scores.

Durability: 4.5/5

I am impressed by the durability of the Tour Velvet grip, it does not show any wear or tear after months of regular usage.

Its state-of-the-art rubber blend provides one of the longest lasting grips in golf. It lasts just as long as any other non-leather grip I’ve seen and researched, meaning you will save money in the long run by playing Tour Velvet grips.

Style:  4/5

It has the classic black grip with Golf Pride printed on it along with the 2 rings on the top and bottom of the grip. I think it looks sharp, but it may not appeal to those whose style is a little more bold with bright colors and patterns.

It comes in 5 different sizes as well as the option of being ribbed for the standard size grip.

Golf Pride Velvet Grip= Best value, PGA tour proven grip on the market

The Golf Pride Velvet Grip is a superior grip that is insanely underpriced. It’s the top choice for pros and amateurs alike.

If Tiger Woods is using it, you know it’s top of the line. The Tour Velvet Grip will help you swing more confidently and provide the feedback needed to take your game to the next level!

I can’t say enough good things about it, I think all handicaps would benefit from playing the Tour Velvet Grip. Do yourself a favor and save a few bucks on your next grip change and grab the Golf Pride Tour Velvet.

Best Budget Leather Free Grip- ChampKey Traction-X Golf Grip

It’s Best For: Golfer Who is Looking to Save $$$ While Getting a Good Value Grip

Pros:
The Traction-X grip provides exceptional control and traction through an innovative hexagon pattern in the grip.
Proprietary rubber material provides soft feel and precise feedback on all shots
Taper profile encourages lighter grip pressure, meaning you can swing freely with less tension. This will result in more powerful and accurate shots.
Extremely low price golf grip, but yet a high quality, durable golf grip.
Cons:
Limited sizes and textures: Only comes in standard, midsize, and oversize with no ribbed options.
Repair kit that is included with some options is not high quality. A lot of complaints about solution bottle leaking and the knife not being sharp.
A few golfers complained about difficulty installing the grips.
Quality concerns with some reviews complaining about grips wearing down quickly while others complement durability of the grips

ChampKey Traction-X Golf Grip Review

4.6/5 stars on Amazon- 4,427 ratings

Champkey Golf Grips have become popular over the last several years as golfers are looking for ways to save a little money on golf. Champkey knows that golf can be an expensive hobby, and created some high quality grips for an extremely affordable price.

Performance:  4/5 stars

I currently have these as my iron grips and driver since June 2022, and I have not noticed any decline in performance since then. I have supreme confidence in trying to crush a drive or hitting a mid iron out of deep rough.

The hexagonal pattern along with the proprietary multi textured surface gives you peace of mind knowing you have a solid and secure grip. This pattern fits my hand perfectly and gives me the feeling of complete control over the club.

It is rather concerning that a few reviews have complained about the grip getting loose or the grip wearing down after a few months. I have yet to have this happen, so maybe those unfortunate golfers installed the grips incorrectly or there could be a quality issue? The majority of Amazon reviews have been positive about how well the Traction-X grip performs.

Price: 5/5

If I could give this a 10/5 I would. These are currently only $30 for 13 grips with tape!! You are saving $100 per club set if you buy these instead of the Tour Velvet grip!

Even if these last ⅓ of the time that the Tour Velvet grips do, you are still saving approximately $40 every grip change.

Unless their quality somehow declines, I’ll have a hard time not recommending these grips to everyone who is looking to save some money on this expensive hobby.

Comfort: 3.5/5

I’m going to be honest, it’s not as comfy as the Tour Velvet grip or the BRD X-1 grip. But for ¼ of the price, it may only be a tier below and is still worth it in my opinion. It still performs close to the Tour Velvet, I think it could be slightly thicker or a different type of rubber to help with the heel or toe mishits.

If you have sensitive hands, this may not be the grip for you. Otherwise, the comfort level is adequate enough for those looking to save approximately $100 every grip change!

Durability: 4/5

The proprietary rubber material has stood up a year for me, the grips still feel as good as new! There are several negative Amazon reviews about the grips becoming loose or wearing out after a few months. It makes me wonder if they were installed incorrectly.

Majority of reviews agreed with me, they seem to hold up just as good as any Tour Pride or Winn grip. Even if they only lasted 1/2 of the time, paying $30 versus $130 seems like a no brainer to me!

Style:  4.5/5

I personally love the look of the Traction-X grip. The X shaped hexagons give it a sleek look, and it comes in 4 different styles. I have the red/black (see above), and I think that along with the Blue are the best looking options.

Along with turning heads on the course, the X shaped hexagon pattern assists you in lining up your hands correctly to help you with the correct grip. This should give you full confidence to swing away and stuff one close for a tap in birdie!

ChampKey Traction-X Golf Grip = Insane Value, Above Average Grip for Dirt Cheap

The Champkey Traction-X grip delivers a good golf grip. It’s not the best golf grip on the market, but for those of us who love a good value, it excels and even will save you money to splurge on that fancy course down the road you always wanted to play.

It performs decently close to any Tour Pride or Winn grip that I have ever used. It may be a small tier below the top grips in the game but for 1/4 of the price, seems like a no brainer to me.

I can confidently say I haven’t noticed a drop off in my game from switching Tour Pride grips to the Champkey Traction-X.

If I got to redesign these grips, I would make them out of a different rubber to maximize the shock absorption on the mishits. Outside of that, these are a great alternative to Winn or Tour Pride grips and can save you $100+ per grip set!

4.2

BEST Latex FREE GOLF GRIPS

A latex allergy is a reaction to certain proteins found in natural rubber latex. If allergic, your body mistakes these proteins from latex as a dangerous chemical.

In most cases, a latex allergy causes itchy skin, redness on your hand, or hives. In rare cases, it could result in anaphylaxis, a potential life threatening condition that can cause throat swelling, nausea, vomiting, or difficulty breathing.

Most golf grips are made of some sort of rubber compound which has latex in it. Fortunately, some of the top brands kept people with latex allergies in mind and have made non latex synthetic compounds or have made leather golf grips.

  • Iomic – all Iomic golf grips are latex free
  • Golf Pride– Several Golf Pride grips don’t contain latex, but are made in facilities and/or on machines that use latex. So no guarantee that it’s completely free of latex.
  • Winn Grips– Except for the DuraTech Series which has partial rubber in the gripping area, the outside wraps of all other Winn Grips are latex free and made from synthetic rubber.
  • SuperStroke– All Lamkin grips are latex free. I personally emailed SuperStroke and got this message back from their customer service team: “All of our grips are made with polyurethane or rubber or a combo of both and do not use latex. You are free to select any of our grips without worrying that you will have an allergic reaction.”

The best feeling, longest lasting grips in golf have always been leather grips. Rubber golf grips came around in the 1950s to help with the mass production of golf clubs as a quick, efficient way to grip golf clubs.

There is no performance upgrade from rubber/synthetic rubber grips to the old fashioned leather grips. Rubber grips, despite being cheaper to produce, aren’t as good of a value due to leather grips being able to last 5-15 years when properly taken care of.

The best golf grips that are latex free are the BestGrips MicroPerf Leather Grip, Winn Dri-Tac 2.0 and the SuperStroke S-Tech grip.

Best Premium Latex free grip- BestGrips MicroPerf Leather Grip

It’s Best For: Golfer Who Values Performance and Comfort and Not Afraid to Spend $$

Pros:
High quality cowhide leather hand-made in USA
As tacky as a golf grip as you will get- only increases with perspiration on grip
Perforations in leather give ultimate feel between club and hands during swing
Stitch on back acts as a reminder rib to help properly set hands
Cons:
Expensive- about 2x more per grip than a standard synthetic rubber grip
Stitching on back may be a dealbreaker to those who don’t like a ribbed grip
Maintenance required- To keep leather in optimal condition, wipe down leather with water frequently and rubbing alcohol once a month
It may be too tacky or “grabby” for some golfers

bestgrips microperf leather grip review

Reviews- 4.7/5 stars on Facebook Page

BestGrips are proudly made in the USA and only use the finest cowhide leather. First thing I noticed out of the box is they smell like genuine leather, not the cheap knockoff leather you commonly see in dress shoes that smells like a combination of plastic & industrial glue. They have created a quality golf grip that delivers a tacky, consistent grip enabling you to swing away with confidence.

BestGrips are some of the longest lasting grips in the game. Caring for the leather can get the grips anywhere from 5-15 years use! That easily offsets the expensive upfront cost and makes them one of the better budget grips you can find.

Performance: 5/5

Leather grips are superior to rubber/plastic grips in every way. They are just more expensive, not marketed as well, and harder to produce in mass quantities.

The handmade leather in the MicroPerf Golf Grip is a natural cowhide leather that breathes freely unlike plastic or rubber grips. Moisture does not pool at the surface of leather like it does for rubber or plastic, allowing the rubber grips to remain tacky even in the wettest of conditions.

BestGrips proprietary ProTack technology is what makes them the best leather golf grip in the game. ProTack increases the comfort level of the grips and takes the natural resistance of leather to moisture to a whole new level. It reacts to moisture and increases the tackiness in the wettest of conditions.

Rain or shine, leather grips are the best performing golf grips on the market. Leather grips are tackier, better feeling, and softer to the touch than rubber or plastic grips.

Price: 3.5/5

The price may seem outrageous at first at $20 per grip. It’s actually one of the best values in golf grips if you consider the fact that you can get 5-15 years out of these grips if taken care of properly.

It’s hard to wrap your mind around it being a great value at first when it cost $280 to replace grips on a whole club set. With proper care of the leather grips, they actually become considerably cheaper considering they will last 2-10 times longer than rubber or plastic grips.

Comfort: 4.5/5

These grips are heads above its rubber and plastic grips competition for comfort. The MicroPerf Grip is unbelievably tacky yet soft and comfortable in the hands. You really don’t need a golf glove to worry about blisters due to hundreds of swings, that’s how soft and responsive the grips are to your hands.

The ProTaper is a top feature of BestGrips that gets rid of the excessive taper found in most rubber grips. Almost all pros and top amateurs have three wraps of tape underneath the dominant hand part of the grip. Getting rid of the excessive taper is something you didn’t even know you needed!

It honestly felt like a new style of grip where both hands felt like they had increased control over the club throughout the swing. Do yourself a favor and try this grip out to see how natural and comfortable it feels!

Durability: 5/5

As anyone with a leather jacket or nice pair of leather work gloves, leather wears in, not out. A non-leather golf grip breaks down over time and can change slightly from day to day. There’s a reason tour pros change their grips every week, some even after every round!

The leather will not wear out over time, but rather will adapt to you. The lifespan of the leather grips will ultimately depend on how well you maintain them. You need to keep your grips clean from dirt or debris, wipe them with a warm water dampened towel 1-2 times a month at minimum.

If the grips get too dirty, use rubbing alcohol instead of hot water. BestGrips website has a great grip care section explaining how to maximize grip life (up to 15 years!!) As long as you keep up with maintenance of the grips, the expensive leather grips will pay off in the long run and save you hundreds!!

Style:  4.5/5

They have 2 standard options (black and tan) along with several custom colored options at the same price. They all give the classic 50’s or 60’s golf vibe off, a plain colored leather grip with a black end cap.

Some may dig the retro vibe while others it may be a huge turnoff. I’m indifferent, I care more about the performance of my golf clubs than how the grips look on it. I have to say I dig the
Augusta Leather Grip (green with yellow stitching).

There are several ways to customize the grips, but if you are the bright, bold Rickie Fowler type, the Best Grips are sure to disappoint.

Best Grips MicroPerf Golf Grip= Gold Standard for Leather Grips

BestGrips, a small shop based in the USA, is trying to bring the leather golf grip back in the game. These high quality, hand-crafted grips provide superior grip and performance compared to its non-leather counterparts. They are significantly more expensive than the competition, but will actually save you hundreds down the line if you take proper care of the grips and get them to last 10-15 years.

These were the most comfortable grips I have ever tested. They performed even better when they got some moisture on them! If you can justify the upfront cost, there is no reason I wouldn’t consider these grips as THE top choice for a golf grip.

The GripMaster Roo leather grips and the GripMaster Cowhide Leather Grips are great alternatives if you are having trouble getting these outside of the US!

Best Value Leather Free Grip- Winn Dri-Tac 2.0

It’s Best For: Golfer Who Values Performance and Feel While Getting a Great Deal!

Pros:
Perfect amount of tackiness keeps you feeling confident swinging through the ball
Multiple polymer technology allows grip to remain sticky in even the wettest of conditions
Cushioned grip is firm and has great shock absorption. Great at relieving hand and forearm fatigue
New generation of Dri-Tac grip fixed durability issue from previous generation
Cons:
Several golfers have complained about grip color wearing off on glove with use
A few golfers complained about difficulty installing grip on club
Hard to find different colors besides black readily available

Winn Dri-Tac 2.0 Grip Review

The Winn Dri-Tac 2.0 Grip is new and improved with increased feel and durability. Winn’s famous polymer technology has innovative slip-resistant grips for all weather conditions.

They perform like a top end grip while being cheap enough to be in most golfer’s price range. The tapered profile with high shock absorption with a medium firmness rating will give you enough feedback on your shots while giving you the utmost comfort and feel.

Performance: 4.5/5

The Winn Dri Tac 2.0 offers the perfect balance of comfort and tackiness to allow you to try and crush a drive without fear of losing control of the club. The firmness is the perfect level of giving back great feedback while still being cushioned enough to take the sting away from any mishits on the toe or heel.

You can confidently try to kill it with the driver as well as hit the delicate little pitch shot off a tight lie knowing that your grip will give you a consistent performance when using Winn Dri Tac 2.0 grips.

Price: 4.5/5

You can usually find these for less than $10/grip, which is an absolute steal. Getting one of the best grips on the market at a budget price is a no brainer.

You will be getting a highly rated, great performing grip at a great price!

Comfort: 4.5/5

Winn seemed to listen to its customers after various golfers’ reviews complained about the previous model grip being too soft. New and improved, the Dri Tac 2.0 has improved tackiness and a slightly firmer grip while maintaining its highly regarded shock-absorbing tendencies.

The club feels like an extension of the hand with the Dri Tac 2.0. There was no fatigue in the hands or forearms after a large bucket of balls at the range. I didn’t notice any blisters or calluses forming either after hundreds of swings, I couldn’t recommend these enough.

Durability: 4/5

This is also an area where Dri Tac 2.0 excels from its previous version. Durability issues were the major con of the Dri Tac 1.0, and the 2.0 fixes that issue. From what I have read and experienced, there have been no durability issues for the Dri Tac 2.0 grip.

These grips will last just as long as any non-leather grip. The grips tend to wear out slightly faster in a hot, humid environment. That would be the same with any grip though, just a product of the environment. The new formula of advanced synthetic polymers seems to be working, and Winn knocked it out of the park with the Dri Tac 2.0.

Style:  4/5

I personally love the style of the grip and it’s futuristic looking lettering. The grip pattern is eye catching and are easy cues for hand placement.

The major gripe I have with the style is the lack of options. There are 2 options from what I could find: black grip with either blue or red lettering. For those that like flashy grips or multi colored grips, this style of grip is not for you.

Winn Dri-Tac 2.0 grip= High Quality Grip for a Value Price!

The Winn Dri Tac 2.0 grip exceeded expectations with improved comfort, tackiness, and durability. Its firm, yet responsive grip allows even the worst of mishits to be cushioned form that stinging feeling.

The Dri Tac 2.0 allows you to swing away freely with no worries about grip performance as you try to smash a 300+ yard drive down the fairway. It holds up surprisingly well in wet conditions, with the unique tread pattern offering tremendous tackiness.

For the price, it’s hard to find a better grip than the Dri Tac 2.0. If you suffer from latex allergies, rest easy knowing you can still get a top performing grip at a great value with the Dri Tac 2.0.

Best Budget leather free grip- Superstroke S-Tech Grip

It’s Best For: Golfer Who Values Performance and Comfort while saving $$$

Pros:
Blend of highly engineered rubber compounds to deliver tacky feel with great feedback in all weather conditions
For only $6 per grip, it’s easily the cheapest high performance grip in golf.
Grip of choice for major winners Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia, so you know it’s reliable and one of the best grips in the game
Tour inspired profile with minimal taper that helps golfers get even hand pressure throughout the swing. This results in faster swings and naturally squaring the clubface, resulting in longer, more accurate shots.
Cons:
Thin grips, not much cushioning that provides a lot of feedback.. Not for golfers who have arthritis issues or don’t like feeling the golf ball come off the club on every shot.
Several golfers have complained about difficulties of installing the grip onto the shaft
A few golfers complained about grip being too thin at the tapered end of the grip
Yellow ink in the buttcap gets messy if exposed to grip solvent (found that out the hard way!)

Superstroke S-tech golf grip

The SuperStroke grips are well known for their putter grips. Did you know they also made quality, high performing club grips as well?

The grip pattern is similar to a Lamkin R.E.L. grip with a circular pattern. It provides a great feel, from the most delicate chip shots to full swings with the driver.

Major winners Jordan Spieth and Sergio Garcia use the S-Tech grip, so you know it is an elite performing grip for 2 of the world’s premiere ball strikers. Not only that, but at $5.99 per grip, it is one of the cheaper grips on the market! Talk about a win for all of the budget golfers out there!

Performance: 4.5/5

These grips are excellent, giving you the feeling of having ultimate control of the clubface while trying to smoke a drive or hit a ball out of the deep rough.

These grips are VERY soft to the touch. Despite the softness, they are incredibly tacky. I experimented and played some finesse pitch shots around the green with no glove and the grip was tackier than expected.

They give great feedback while still remaining soft to the touch. You immediately know as you hit the ball if you flushed it or missed the sweet spot by a mile. Your fingers don’t get rattled on mishits on the toe or club which is nice.

That being said, the feedback was great for me (33 year old male) but may be too much for an elderly golfer who has arthritis.

If Jordan Spieth can confidently play these week to week, they are definitely good enough for us average amateurs to play. For the price point, it’s one of the better deals you will ever find with golf grips.

Price: 5/5

You can usually find these for $6/grip, which is highway robbery. Getting one of the best performance grips on the market that’s played by several top PGA tour pros seems like a no brainer.

You will be getting a highly rated, great performing grip at a fraction of the price as similar quality grips!

Comfort: 4.5/5

These grips are very soft to the touch. They give you the confidence to try and crush a drive as well as hitting delicate little pitch shots around the green knowing your grip will never falter.

These grips are tacky enough where you feel like you never have to go past 5/10 on grip pressure, even on the rainiest of days. This is huge as you won’t overgrip the club, causing tension and fatigue in your forearms. This slows down your swing and hurts your distance and accuracy.

My only precaution is if you are ages 55+, you may just want to install one of these on a club before committing to a full grip change on your set. The thinness did not bother me one bit but it may be too much for a golfer with arthritis.

Durability: 4.5/5

These grips were good to me when I played them in 2017-2019 (I’m a HUGE Spieth fan) but have seen several reviews complaining about the grips getting slick 4-6 months in. Haven’t played them in a while due to my love of experimenting with different grips, but may have to get them back in the bag.

My grips lasted about 1 year each time, and could have been slightly longer but it was hard to justify playing with slightly slick grips at that price point! Majority of reviews I have read recently were positive on the grips, so it may have been a quality issue at some point or golfers being picky.

Style:  4/5

I personally love the style of the grip and its simplicity. They look sharp and are easy to align your hands with. My personal favorite has always been the red with the black ends, I think it makes me look and feel like Spieth prowling around Augusta!

That being said, the style is a little bland for those who like a little more boldness and the big “S” is a little offputting for those who like a plain look with no logos. The yellow lettering with the blue grip is the worst looking one in my opinion, but that may be my Ohio bias showing haha.
