7 Simple Ways to Golf with a Baby Stroller

Baby Caddie with Single Stroller

As a new parent, it may seem impossible to get to the course or get some practice in to keep the game sharp. The best way to fix your golf itch and give your spouse a break is to bring your baby/toddler to the course with you!

Check with your course first though to see if they allow this, some courses strongly discourage bringing young kids to the course.

Here are 7 ways to golf with a baby stroller to get a quick 9 holes or a range session in!

  • Use a double stroller for your kid and golf clubs
  • Use a stroller while storing clubs in bottom compartment
  • Push stroller while carrying bag
  • Push stroller while spouse uses push cart
  • Push stroller while spouse takes a cart
  • Use a Baby Caddie
  • Use a Kid Caddie

1. USE A DOUBLE STROLLER (TODDLER IN FRONT, BAG IN BACK)

If you have a dual stroller and are golfing solo, this is the best option for walking while keeping your toddler entertained.

There are great benefits to golfing solo such as quicker rounds and more practice within the round and can be a great bonding time with your young kids.

This works out well if you have a way to secure the bag on the stroller (bungee cord, ratchet strap, etc.). Just make sure to pack something to keep your child entertained!

See my article 15 Proven Ways to Golf with a Baby or Toddler on ways to keep your child in a good mood while you are out on the course fixing your golf itch.

2. Push stroller while putting clubs & accessories into the bottom compartment of stroller

This will be the least taxing option physically if your stroller has a bottom compartment where you can store the clubs.

Remember to leave room for a diaper bag or toys to keep your baby/toddler occupied!

If your stroller does not have some sort of organizer on top, you can buy one for about $20-$25 to help organize your wallet, phone, tees, balls, etc.

3. Push stroller while carrying bag

This is the most practical option for parents that do not have a dual stroller or a bottom compartment to store clubs, balls, and tees.

Try to lighten the load as much as possible in your bag as pushing a stroller and carrying a bag turns into a decent cardio workout!

I am in decent shape and I am usually fatigued after 9 holes of pushing a stroller while carrying a full bag.

A Sunday Bag is also a great way to lighten the load, as well as only carrying the absolute necessities (a few balls, tees, gloves, etc.)

4. Push stroller while SPOUSE USES PUSH CART OR CARRIES CLUBS (COMBINE 2 SETS OF CLUBS INTO 1 BAG)

This is a great option if you have 2 golfers (spouse or friend) and are willing to combine 2 sets of clubs into one bag.

A half set of clubs is also a fun way to force yourself to hit creative shots like this video from Golf Channel showing how to hit chippy 9 irons to control the spin and keep it out of the wind. Hitting a bunch of half shots is great practice and will have great benefits for your game.

If the stroller or push cart gets too tiring, you could always switch every few holes to help lighten the load.

You will also have someone else to entertain the young one in between shots or while you are hitting if they get too impatient or grumpy!

5. Push stroller while SPOUSE takes a cart

If you have 2 golfers and want to use 2 full sets of clubs, the best option would be to have one golfer push the stroller while the other takes a cart.

This works best if you have a young baby who is going to sleep majority of the time and you don’t fully trust putting them in the golf cart just yet.

You could always switch it up as well if pushing the stroller gets too tiring.

6. use a Baby caddie

The Baby Caddie was created for busy parents who want to golf and be with their kids.

I gave a detailed review of the Baby Caddie and I gave it 4/5 stars. It gives you the ability to spend time with your kids as well as keep your game sharp by golfing 9 holes or getting a quick range session in.

It is a great product that fits any stroller by sitting between the stroller handles with 2 velcro straps. In my opinion, the pockets could be a little bigger. The pockets are big enough to fit gloves, tees, wallet, phone, and about 15 golf balls as shown in my picture.

It installs in seconds and at only 1.8 pounds, it feels like you are taking another walk in the park. This also comes with a separate shoulder strap where you can use it as a carry bag for those quick range sessions.

I’m not a fan of the fact you are not able to carry a full set of clubs. I was only able to carry 8 clubs, and this may be a dealbreaker for some. Still, only carrying 8 clubs can be a great way to practice as you get to hit a lot of 60-80% shots, chips with a different wedge than usual, etc.

It’s a great product, I would highly recommend to go visit Baby Caddie and try it yourself!

Pros:
Gives you ability to golf, spend quality time with your kids, and get good exercise!
Works great on single and double strollers, takes seconds to install or to put away into carrying case.
Only weighs 1.8 pounds and folds up into a small bag for easy storage in your trunk or closet!
Can also use as a carry bag for quick sessions to the range
Cons:
Can not carry full set of clubs (8 clubs with standard size grips)
Pockets could be a little bigger, may not be enough room for those who have a loaded bag full of balls, gloves, tees, etc.
Bag tips towards legs of the golfer. Slightly annoying as you may have to change your gait to avoid bag hitting your legs with every stride.

7. use a kid caddie

Available in July 2023, the Kid Caddie won awards at the 2023 PGA Merchandise Show and looks like a great product to attach to a stroller!

If you are one that has to play with a full set of clubs, I would get the Kid Caddie over the Baby Caddie. I have yet to use the Kid Caddie, but the lack of storage would be my main concern for gloves, wallet, phone, etc.

The Kid Caddie holds 18 clubs, 7 balls, 6 tees, and comes with 2 ball markers. All you need is a stroller that has a bottom basket underneath to set the clubs in.

Additional accessories for purchase that connect to the carrier include a cup holder, phone holder, and scorecard holder.

I would advise getting one of these as soon as they come out. It would pay for itself in a few rounds not having to get a babysitter and/or not getting a cart!

It would be great exercise as well as spending some quality time with your young one!

Final Thoughts:

Pushing a stroller while being able to golf is a great way to:

  • Spending quality time outdoors with your kids
  • Get great exercise
  • Save money by not getting a babysitter or paying for a cart

I would always check with the course to make sure they are okay with it first. Not every course enjoys having young babies or toddlers there, especially when it is busy. Try to go when the course is empty, you’ll be able to play at your own pace and not have to worry about errant shots being a danger to your kid(s).

As the kids get older, you can start to introduce them to golf and you will have lifelong golf partners! My parents did this to my brother and I by bringing us to a local par 3 course as soon as we could walk and will be forever grateful that I can do the same with my kids.

What would you add? What have you done to get more golf in with your little ones in the stroller? Feel free to contact me with any ideas.
